Poem: End of an Era

75 West Main Street, Welland

The end of an era
Now draws to a close
Memories fade
Opportunities arose
The laughter of friends
The crowds on the street
The art on the walls
The people I’d meet
The loves and the lost
The friends and foes
Two and half years
Of art and of shows
Doves above doorways
Paint on the floor
Dream of a plan
And then make it more
Windows were covered
Door open wide
Hidden from street view
The magic inside
On cold winter evenings
And hot summer days
One thousand ideas
One hundred ways
Paint the town red
And the bridge too
Reclaim a park
Make old seem new
Smoke on the street
Watch cars go by
Days became months
Now these years have gone by
Time here near done
In my heart, it will be
This special place
Remains inside me
It’s the end of an era
A new one soon starts
Have fun and be cool
And always do art
