Poem: We Watched as Dreams Went Up in Smoke

image

All our dreams and hopes and fears
Now fanned by flame drawing ever near
A spark ignites and makes a glow
Burning bright it reddens and grows
Until a flame is quickly struck
Crackle and spread and run amok
It burns, it burns and grows ever higher
Blasting furnace, funeral pyre
What has begun, cannot now stop
Consume and burn and rise to top
Until all engulfed in furious flare
All absorbed, incensed in glare
What once was small and tiny spark
Brightens a night, illuminates dark
We watched as dreams went up in smoke
Nothing left, no words now spoke
