Poem: There Are Flowers on the Wall

image

There are flowers on the wall
Painted long ago
By my mother’s father
So many years ago
Before I was even me
Before this could ever be
Long gone are they
Colors do not bloom
And this distant memory
Still lives on
Forever
It is alive
Perfect
Beautiful
A happiness remembered
A time and place shared
Forevermore

I could paint you
Make you that way
In my mind
In my heart
I can work from a picture
But it’s not the same
As how I see you
Make you beautiful
A happiness remembered
A time and place shared
Forevermore

Instead
I put my down my brushes
I can’t paint flowers
When they are gone
Because working from pictures
Isn’t the same
