Poem: Sleepless in a City

Sleepless in a city
Rain in empty night
Filling up the gutters
Scattering the light
Shimmering black ribbons
Outside the front door
Leading out to nighttime
Where I burn for more
Yearning for serenity
Hoping for a dream
Wishing that it’s granted
Bursting at the seams
A new day is coming
A sunrise hours soon
Clouds bring out the shadows
Hiding October moon
Streets empty and familiar
Nothing passes by
The hours are creeping longer
Blurry in my eyes
Still I stay here wakeful
Pining for what’s more
Waiting for a ship to come in
And bring you to my shore
