Poem: Joyful Calamity

The greatest times of my life
Happen again
At my expense
This joyful calamity
In which I plunged headfirst
Has not towed me under
Yet

When the music is over
And we are all done dancing
The doors have closed
The lights are off
All are home, or somewhere
I’m here
With ghosts

So much hope
Abounds
Direction
Different
Something to feel
Something to do
Beyond ourselves
Drunk with enthusiasm
Fevered with ambition
It only took walls
That I surround myself with

Best decision
I’ve ever made
Still not enough
No good deed
Goes unpunished
